What this GPS speedometer measures
The live value is speed over the ground. The browser may receive a velocity estimate from the device; when that value is unavailable, zigmaty estimates movement from reliable position fixes and elapsed time. It does not read wheel rotation, an OBD port, or the vehicle dashboard.
When the reading is most useful
A steady run under open sky gives the receiver time to settle. Treat the accuracy value, recent chart and signal status as context: a large accuracy radius, a fresh start, sharp acceleration or a reflected city signal can make one instant less representative than a stable segment.
What interrupts GPS speed
Tunnels, covered parking, deep cuttings, dense buildings and some coated windows can delay or stop satellite updates. A frozen or zero value after signal loss is not proof that the device is stationary; wait for a new usable fix.
Safe interpretation
Use the display as secondary trip information. It is not a calibrated enforcement instrument, certified dashboard or marine navigation device. Configure and secure the phone before moving and let a passenger operate it when attention would be unsafe.
