This running speedometer turns the phone’s GPS observations into current speed, session distance and an average pace. Pace is calculated from the session average speed, not from a single stride or a kilometre split. It is intended for a simple outdoor check, not treadmill measurement, medical monitoring or a prescribed training target.
Begin with a clean outdoor session
Open the page outside, choose km/h or mph and press Start before setting off. Allow location when asked and keep the page visible. Wait for the status to show usable updates rather than reacting to the first number. Carry the phone consistently; repeated changes between a pocket and an exposed hand can change reception. Set controls before running, and stop in a safe place if you need to read details.
Understand exactly which pace is displayed
The pace field uses total accepted distance and elapsed session time. With km/h or m/s selected it is minutes per kilometre; with mph it is minutes per mile. At zero average speed it shows a dash because pace would be undefined. It is not instantaneous pace, best pace, lap pace or a split. A short stop while tracking continues increases elapsed time and therefore makes the session pace slower. Pressing Stop pauses the timer; Start resumes the uncleared session. As an arithmetic example, 5 accepted kilometres in 30 minutes produces 6:00 min/km and 10 km/h average. Add five minutes of active waiting and the pace becomes 7:00 min/km. These are examples of the clock, not training recommendations.

Use the chart to see context, not to invent splits
The chart records recent speed points against elapsed time and can show whether a spike was isolated. It does not mark each kilometre, detect intervals or calculate elevation gain. Maximum speed is especially sensitive to a brief accepted peak, while the average can be pulled down by waiting. Treat urban pace jumps as a reception problem first
Tall buildings, tree cover, tight turns and a phone pressed against the body can disturb location observations. Pace is the inverse of speed, so small speed changes can look like larger pace changes, especially when moving slowly. Look for several consistent updates and a reasonable accuracy status. When updates go stale, the current speed drops to zero until data resumes; do not interpret that instant as a physical stop or fitness change.
Know what a browser run does not measure
The page does not count steps, detect cadence, read heart rate, estimate calories, map a route or issue health guidance. Its speed alert is not a coach and a target selected without context can be inappropriate. A treadmill moves the belt while the phone may stay in roughly one place, so GPS ground speed is the wrong measurement there. Use the treadmill display or a suitable calibrated sensor for indoor running.
Compare sessions only after aligning the clock
For a repeatable comparison, use the same start and finish landmarks and decide whether warm-up, crossings and rests remain inside the session. Average pace from elapsed time cannot be compared directly with another service’s moving-time pace. Reception gaps may also shorten accepted distance. Keep notes with any result and use the local history as a convenience, not a permanent training log; it stays in this browser and may disappear if site storage is cleared.

Questions runners ask before using the tool
Is the pace current pace or average pace?
It is average session pace calculated from accepted distance and elapsed time. The page does not provide instantaneous or split pace.
Why does pace show a dash at the start?
Until accepted distance and time produce a positive average speed, a finite pace cannot be calculated.
Does Stop end the session permanently?
No. Stop pauses tracking and saves the visible summary; pressing Start continues the uncleared session, while Reset clears it.
Can I use it on a treadmill?
Not for belt speed. A nearly stationary phone has little GPS ground movement even while you run on the belt.
Does it measure heart rate or cadence?
No. It does not connect to a heart-rate monitor, foot pod or cadence sensor.
