Set up the ride before the wheels turn
Place the phone in a secure mount that does not block steering, braking, lights or your view. Choose km/h or mph, press Start while stopped and allow location only if you want to measure. Keep the browser visible and wait for a usable signal before judging the display. Do not hold or adjust the phone while riding. A passenger-style glance is not possible on a bicycle, so stop somewhere safe before changing settings or reviewing the chart.
Read current speed and session figures as different answers
The large number is the latest accepted speed observation. Maximum is the highest accepted value in this session. Average is calculated from accepted distance divided by elapsed session time, so traffic lights, rests and other stopped time lower it. Stop pauses the timer and location watch; Start continues the same uncleared session. Reset begins a new one. This is not an automatic moving-time average and there are no kilometre splits or route export. For example, 10 accepted kilometres in 30 elapsed minutes gives 20 km/h. If the same session contains another 10 minutes waiting with tracking active, its average becomes 15 km/h, even though riding speed need not have changed.

Expect GPS and a wheel sensor to disagree sometimes
A wheel computer estimates motion from wheel rotations and a configured circumference. This page uses the phone’s location observations. Tyre size, sensor setup, GPS reception, update timing and filtering can therefore produce different values. Compare a steady open segment rather than two changing displays at one instant. A brief peak after trees, buildings or a tunnel is weak evidence; do not recalibrate a cycle computer from one phone reading.
Keep cycling metrics outside the promise
No cadence sensor, power meter, heart-rate strap or e-bike controller is connected here. The speed alert is based only on this browser’s current GPS value and is not a legal speed limiter, crash detector or training coach. An e-bike display may use wheel or motor data and serve a different purpose. Use the manufacturer’s instrument and applicable local rules for assisted-speed status, faults and safety decisions.
Interpret missing fixes before interpreting performance
Dense trees, high buildings, a bag or pocket and aggressive battery saving can delay updates. The status and accuracy fields help describe the current observation, but an accuracy radius is not a guarantee that speed has the same error. If updates become stale, current speed is shown as zero until a fresh fix arrives; that zero does not prove the bike stopped. Move to open sky, keep the page foregrounded and test several updates.
Save a useful comparison without turning it into a record claim
End comparable rides at comparable points and note whether waiting time was included. The latest ten summaries are stored locally in this browser, not synced to an account, and clearing site data can remove them. A shorter GPS distance after a reception gap can distort the average. For formal race timing, navigation, long-term training history or sensor analysis, use equipment and procedures designed for that job. This page is best for an immediate, contextual check.
