Examples

Pace is time per unit distance

Divide total time by distance. A 25-minute 5K equals 5:00 min/km and an average speed of 12 km/h.

Use clock time correctly

Convert hours, minutes and seconds to one duration before division, then format the result back into minutes and seconds. Decimal 5.5 minutes means 5:30, not 5:50.

A projection assumes even pace

Multiplying pace by a race distance is a planning estimate. Hills, weather, fatigue, stops and course measurement can change the actual finish time.

Separate planning from live tracking

Use this calculator for known distance, time or target pace. Use the running speedometer when GPS should measure an outdoor session.

Common questions

Short answers about this calculator.

How do you calculate running pace?

Running pace equals elapsed time divided by distance. The calculator shows pace per kilometer and per mile.

Can I calculate 5K or 10K pace?

Yes. Enter your race distance and finish time to see average pace and speed.

Is this different from the GPS running speedometer?

Yes. This page is for manual calculations. The running speedometer tracks live outdoor movement with GPS.

Can I use it for walking or cycling pace?

Yes. You can enter any distance and time, then use the pace and average speed results for walking, cycling, running, or training notes.

Why does pace matter?

Pace makes low-speed movement easier to compare because it shows how long each kilometer or mile takes instead of only showing speed.
